Navy Weeks bring the Navy to regions without a major naval presence, fostering connections and demonstrating how the Navy’s mission ensures security, prosperity and freedom for our nation. The Navy Week program has visited over 100 U.S. cities since the program’s inception in 2005.

As the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026, Navy Weeks continues to take sailors on a celebratory “Road Trip to 250,” serving as symbolic stops across the United States, highlighting the Navy’s history, heritage, and continued commitment to defending homeland and freedom and supporting American communities.

During Sussex County Navy Week, sailors will connect with the community and share their experiences serving in the modern fleet, who are taken care of and always mission ready.

“Going back (to Delaware) after 19 years to help bring the Navy to folks who don’t normally get a chance to experience it is important to me to give people the chance to join and maybe get out of the small-town rut,” said Chief Petty Officer Jordon Marr, a native of Smyrna.

“I am well-known as a proud Delawarean,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Jonathan Wideman, a native of Bear. “I often sing the First State’s praises at work. While the state’s military presence is largely the Air Force, I want to take the opportunity to engage with people who had the similar experiences to what I had growing up and share my expirence with them and tell them about how amazing the Navy is.”

The event will further existing relationships, showcasing a lineup of performances, demonstrations, and community engagements. Other participating units include U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard, Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron 4, Naval History and Heritage Command and Navy Meteorology and Oceanography Command.

Highlights of Sussex County Navy Week include:
