DAYTON, Ohio — President Donald Trump rallied voters just outside Dayton as part of his midterm tour, speaking at Butler High School about immigration, Republican candidates on the November ballot, voter identification and data centers.
Trump spoke for over 90 minutes before thousands of Ohioans. Rally attendee Vince Gutman said the visit was significant for the area.
“It’s super important, you know, to have the most powerful person in the entire world come to Dayton, Ohio, come to this high school, come speak to these people,” Gutman said. “I mean, it really is truly important and a great thing.”
Trump used part of the rally to promote his endorsements for Republican candidates. He also urged voters to approve Issue 3, a voter identification amendment on the ballot.
“Vote yes on Issue 3 to require voter ID,” Trump said. “I think that’s going to get a lot of people.”
Trump also spoke about data centers and said he supports bringing them to Ohio.
“We want them,” Trump said. “Look, there’s so much money to be made for Ohio. You can’t just turn them off.”
Ohio Democrats responded to Trump’s visit with a prerecorded statement from Democratic candidate Kristina Knickerbocker. The response came as Associated Press polling shows low approval for Trump’s handling of the economy and the war in Iran.
“Ohioans deserve better,” Knickerbocker said. “It’s really unfortunate that this rally was really people just talking about things that aren’t applicable to the struggles that we are feeling.”
The last day to register to vote is Monday. Early in-person voting begins Tuesday, and the November election will occur on the third.
