US stock futures moved higher on Monday as investors prepared for quarterly earnings from major technology companies amid concerns about artificial intelligence investment and financing conditions. Oil prices declined following US President Donald Trump’s decision to waive certain sanctions on Russia, while Chinese economic data showed an acceleration in third-quarter growth.
Futures linked to the Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 advanced in early trading, following declines in the main Wall Street indices on Friday.
Investors were also assessing preliminary financial results from Chinese memory chip manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), whose shares declined despite forecasts of substantial revenue growth and a return to profitability.
US Futures Advance Following Technology Sector Declines
At 03:06 ET (07:06 GMT), Dow Jones futures had risen 215 points, or 0.4%, while S&P 500 futures gained 53 points, or 0.7%.
Nasdaq 100 futures increased 384 points, equivalent to 1.3%.
The gains followed a decline in US equities on Friday, when concerns about financing requirements and valuations across the artificial intelligence sector affected technology stocks.
Analysts at Vital Knowledge described investor sentiment towards AI-related equities as “considerably darker”.
The firm highlighted concerns about the sustainability of debt and equity issuance used to finance the expansion of AI infrastructure.
Media reports indicating that quarterly revenue growth at Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI model, remained substantial but had slowed compared with the preceding quarter also contributed to investor attention on the sector.
Vital Knowledge analysts said: “While many stocks are still above their summer lows, the psychology towards the group seems worse than it was in June and July, due in large part to the dramatic worsening in certain pockets of the AI credit market.”
AI Market Concerns Extend to Currency Outlook
Analysts at ING also examined the potential implications of technology market volatility for the US dollar.
The bank said the dollar “could be a laggard in further stock market instability”, although it did not anticipate an imminent substantial decline in the currency.
The assessment reflects concerns that changes in investor positioning towards AI-related assets could affect other financial markets.
Investors are continuing to evaluate the financing requirements of major technology companies and the potential relationship between infrastructure expenditure, revenue growth and future profitability.
Meta and Tesla Earnings Scheduled for Wednesday
Quarterly earnings from major US technology companies will be a focus during the week, particularly as investors assess spending on artificial intelligence.
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) is scheduled to report its results after the US market close on Wednesday.
The company has expanded its AI activities following the September launch of its Muse model, which reportedly attracted millions of downloads.
The technology includes services designed to assist users with travel bookings and small-business tasks.
Meta has also released an open-weight version of its Muse Spark model for coding applications.
Investors will be examining Meta’s financial performance and management commentary on AI investment, capital expenditure and the commercial development of its technology.
Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is also scheduled to publish quarterly results after Wednesday’s closing bell.
The company recently attracted attention following a live demonstration in which a booster-powered vehicle completed a controlled landing.
Both earnings announcements come during a period of increased scrutiny of technology companies’ investment programmes and growth expectations.
Oil Prices Fall Following US Decision on Russian Sanctions
Crude oil prices declined on Monday after President Donald Trump issued an executive order suspending numerous sanctions on Russia shortly before their scheduled implementation.
The administration also waived proposed tariffs on countries importing Russian oil.
At 03:56 ET, Brent crude futures fell 2.6% to $106.97 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures declined 2.0% to $99.36 per barrel.
The declines followed a gain of nearly 5% in crude prices during the previous week, when concerns about supply disruptions, particularly in the Middle East, supported the market.
The US measures raised expectations that additional Russian crude could remain available to international buyers.
Trump subsequently indicated on social media that maintaining Russia’s participation in negotiations was among the considerations behind his approach to efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Earlier, the president had said that no final decision had been made, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the administration could take up to 60 days to assess the economic effects of the waivers.
CXMT Forecasts Revenue Growth and Return to Profit
Chinese memory chip manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies forecast a substantial increase in revenue for the first nine months of 2026, citing demand associated with artificial intelligence and higher memory chip prices.
In a preliminary earnings estimate, CXMT projected revenue of between 265 billion yuan and 270 billion yuan, equivalent to approximately $39.6 billion to $40.4 billion.
The forecast compares with revenue of 32.08 billion yuan in the corresponding period of 2025, representing an increase of more than eight times.
The company also expects net profit attributable to shareholders of between 131 billion yuan and 132.5 billion yuan.
This would represent a reversal from the net loss of 5.28 billion yuan recorded in the first nine months of the previous year.
Despite the projected improvement in financial performance, CXMT shares declined.
The share price movement came amid heightened investor expectations for companies benefiting from demand for AI-related semiconductor products.
China’s Third-Quarter GDP Growth Accelerates to 4.5%
China’s economy expanded faster than expected in the third quarter of 2026, supported by exports and demand associated with artificial intelligence.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed gross domestic product increased 4.5% year on year in the three months ended September 30.
The result exceeded economists’ expectations for 4.4% growth and represented an acceleration from the 4.3% annual increase recorded in the preceding quarter.
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP grew 1.2%, compared with forecasts of 1.1% and growth of 0.9% in the second quarter.
For the first nine months of 2026, China’s economy expanded by 4.6%.
The figures place growth within the government’s previously stated annual target range of 4.5% to 5%.
Investors Monitor Earnings, Energy Markets and Chinese Growth
Financial markets began the week with gains in US stock futures, lower crude oil prices and further developments in the technology sector.
The upcoming earnings announcements from Meta and Tesla will provide additional information about corporate performance and investment plans.
At the same time, changes to US sanctions on Russia are influencing expectations for global oil supply, while China’s economic data and CXMT’s preliminary results provide further indications of activity in the Chinese economy and semiconductor industry.
