(WRGB) — The holidays are right around the corner, and with many people already ordering gifts, the demand for delivery drivers is expected to increase.
The U.S. Postal Service is preparing for the holiday rush by hosting two local job fairs, beginning with one in Albany and another scheduled next week in Amsterdam.
Postal Service officials say there is currently a major push to fill frontline delivery positions across the region. City carrier assistants start at $21.21 per hour, rural carrier associates earn $21.89 per hour, and part-time flexible city carriers earn $26.28 per hour.
The Postal Service is also recruiting for a variety of skilled trades positions. Officials say careers are available for automotive technicians, mechanics, and maintenance employees who help support the agency’s logistics and fleet operations, including maintaining sorting equipment and other infrastructure.

You don’t have to stick to one section of the Postal Service.
“That could lead you to a postmaster position and then maybe an operations manager and so forth. So we have a lot of avenues that can provide for Mark Lawrence, a strategic communications specialist with USPS.
The second job fair is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Amsterdam Post Office, located at 10 Church St.
