New Delhi:
A case of leak of secret information has come to light in HDFC Bank, the country’s largest private bank. An internal investigation of HDFC Bank has found evidence which shows that two senior officers shared the bank’s confidential business strategy and important market-impacting information with outsiders.
People having knowledge of this entire matter said that these officers handle some major business and functions of the bank.
How did you know everything?
According to these people, HDFC Bank identified these officers during an internal investigation. This investigation was started when some senior officers of the bank suspected information being leaked.
It is being told that the investigation is still going on and the bank is trying to find out whether this information was misused.
What did the bank say?
An HDFC Bank spokesperson acknowledged the internal review, but did not comment on its findings or the officers involved.
“In accordance with our policies, an internal review is underway to gather and evaluate all relevant facts of this matter,” the spokesperson said via email.
He further said, ‘After the review is completed, appropriate action will be taken based on whatever results emerge.’
The bank said it is committed to maintaining high standards of ethics and governance and takes reports of potential violations of rules seriously.

Everything okay in HDFC Bank?
This assessment is happening at a time when allegedly everything is not going well inside the bank. After boardroom controversies and the departure of some senior management officials, the bank is now preparing to appoint an outsider as its CEO for the first time.
News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that senior management and some board members were informed about this investigation and its results in the beginning of this year.
Sources also said that both the officers have been formally informed about these results, but it is not yet clear what action will be taken against them.
After the arrival of these reports, the challenges facing Anup Bagchi have increased further. Anup Bagchi, who has been associated with ICICI Group for a long time, is going to take over as the CEO of HDFC Bank on 27 October.
In recent months, the ongoing differences within HDFC have come to the fore. In March, the then chairman Atanu Chakraborty suddenly resigned. In his resignation, he had raised questions on the functioning of the bank. However, later in the bank’s investigation, his claims were not proved to be true.
Anoop Bagchi’s appointment is coming at a time when current CEO Shashidhar Jagadeesan has decided not to seek a second term. Jagadishan is leaving the post after holding the post of CEO for six years.
Not only this, the bank’s Deputy Managing Director Kaizad Bharucha has also expressed his desire to leave his post by the end of December. Kaizad Bharucha is one of the long serving officers of HDFC Bank.
