Uttar Pradesh is aiming to become a $1 trillion economy by 2030. Leading policy makers, bankers, industrialists and economic experts led by State Excise Minister of State (Independent Charge) Nitin Agarwal will discuss the role of Purvanchal or Eastern Uttar Pradesh in realizing this ambitious goal at a conference in Varanasi tomorrow.

Along with Aggarwal, other top ministers of the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh will also be present in Business Standard’s ‘Ubrata Purvanchal’ program. Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh, Minister of State for Stamps and Registration (Independent Charge) Ravindra Jaiswal, AYUSH Minister Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’ and Minister of State for MSME Hansraj Vishwakarma will also be present at the conference being held under the joint aegis of Invest UP. Ministers, experts and industry representatives will discuss issues related to economic development, trade, business, investment, employment, infrastructure etc. in the Purvanchal region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi has, in the last few years, transformed from an ancient city to a unique confluence of tradition and modernity in urban development. The inaugural session of ‘Ubharta Purvanchal’ will be followed by insightful and thought-provoking panel discussions that will provide an opportunity to take a closer look at the state’s plan for eastern Uttar Pradesh. Besides, investors will also get an opportunity to present their views.

Purvanchal is one of the most populous regions of India and has a unique cultural, linguistic and economic identity. This area, which was once considered economically backward and an area of youth migrating in search of employment, today has three international airports – Varanasi, Ayodhya and Kushinagar. Gorakhpur is a major hub of trade and transportation and major cities like Varanasi, Bhadohi and Mirzapur are famous throughout the world for textiles and carpets. Every district of Purvanchal has become the home of some indigenous industry under the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme.

At present, three expressways – Ganga Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway and Bundelkhand Expressway – pass through the districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and connect them to other regions. This ensures smooth movement of passengers and goods. Recognizing the immense growth potential here, many projects like Pharma Park, Toy Park, Textile Hub, Defense Manufacturing Cluster are coming up in Purvanchal.

The sudden surge in religious, heritage and spiritual tourism in Uttar Pradesh has also increased socio-economic activities in Purvanchal.

As Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said, Purvanchal will play a catalytic role in making Uttar Pradesh the state with the top economy in the country. Yogi government has also prepared a strong network of policies to attract big investments in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh had received over 19,000 investment proposals worth Rs 30 lakh crore at the UP Global Investors Summit in February 2023. Now the state is planning to hold the fifth mega foundation stone laying ceremony to launch projects worth more than Rs 5 lakh crore. Since coming to power in March 2017, the Yogi government has held four foundation stone laying ceremonies, in which projects worth Rs 15 lakh crore have been started.

Apart from this, the system made for ease of doing business is also getting full benefit now. Due to this, the Gross State Domestic Product of Uttar Pradesh has increased rapidly and employment opportunities are being created on a large scale. The state government is making full use of Uttar Pradesh’s natural resources, agricultural base and skilled human resources for economic development. The increasing number of expressways, national and international airports, logistics and export hubs, industrial corridors and tourism corridors are taking Uttar Pradesh to higher levels on the investment ladder.

In such a situation, ‘Emerging Purvanchal’ will provide a great platform to discuss the agenda of all-round development of this vibrant region in every way.
