MIAMI, Fla. — The Florida Women’s Tennis Team travels to Miami this week for the ITA Regional Championships from Oct. 8-13. There are 13 regional championships taking place over the next two weeks, and on the line are 26 NCAA singles qualifiers and 13 NCAA doubles qualifiers.
Seven different Gators will take part in the event, hosted by the University of Miami, while an eighth — Allegra Korpanec Davies — competes in the Lake Las Vegas Open.
On the singles side, Scarlett Nicholson has a bye into the round of 32 in the quarterfinal draw, and is scheduled to play either Stetson’s Alissia Aleksandra Kivi or Florida International’s Milica Vasiliki Milosavljevic on Thursday, Oct. 8 at approximately 1 p.m. ET.
Six other Gators begin their tournament runs in the main draw on Oct. 9. Yesterday Hossam (#11) will square off against an as-yet-to-be-determined qualifier at 9:30 a.m. Nikola Daubnerova takes on Florida Gulf Coast’s Maria Vargas at 10 a.m. Brooke Black (#82) plays Florida State’s MaryBoyce Deatherage at 11 a.m. Gabia Paskausas (#30) faces an unknown qualifier at 12:30 p.m. Capucine Jauffret’s match against Kennesaw State’s Ema Baraniakova begins at 1:30 p.m. Valery Gynina (#17) is the last Gator to the starting gate, playing Florida Atlantic’s Panna Bartha at 2 p.m.
As of Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m., the doubles draw had yet to be posted, but Florida’s doubles tandems will consist of Black and Gynina (#6), Jauffret and Hossam, and Nicholson and Paskauskas. There is no qualifying draw for the doubles portion of the championships.
In total, there are 64 singles players in both the main draw and the qualifying draw, and 64 doubles teams in the main draw.
