Nissan is celebrating 40 years of the Pathfinder with a Special Edition that harks back to the 1987 original, just as the nameplate posts some of the strongest sales in its history. The 2027 range reaches US dealers in November from US$39,990, with the Special Edition starting at US$47,390.

The Special Edition pairs black and burgundy upholstery, a nod to the original’s burgundy cloth seats, with red exterior accents including the Pathfinder lettering on the liftgate. It also gets 20-inch black alloys, a panoramic moonroof, second-row captain’s chairs and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. A tow hitch raises towing capacity to 6,000lb (2,722kg), and the all-wheel-drive version costs US$49,390.

Every Pathfinder uses a 3.5-litre V6 with 284hp and 259lb-ft, paired with a nine-speed automatic. The off-road-focused Rock Creek grade continues.

“The Pathfinder Special Edition celebrates that legacy by connecting one of our most beloved nameplates with the customers and adventures that shaped its story,” said Marco Fioravanti, Vice President of Product Planning at Nissan US and Canada.

The Pathfinder had its best-ever sales quarter in Q2 2026, and Nissan sold its two millionth example in September. It is built in Smyrna, Tennessee, which makes it central to Nissan’s “build where you sell” strategy. US-built vehicles made up nearly 60% of Nissan and Infiniti sales through September, and the company is aiming for 80% by 2030, a goal that matters more under US import tariffs.
