Mural raises $28m to power FinTechs and agentic finance

Mural, a compliant system of record that FinTechs and platforms use to move, store and grow customer money, has brought its total funding to $28m after closing a fresh Series A round.

The $15m Series A was led by Tether, with North Island Ventures and the firm’s existing backers also taking part.

The company plans to put the capital towards strengthening its infrastructure for moving, holding and growing money, growing its team, widening its licensing and compliance coverage, and bringing additional markets onto what it describes as the Global Financial Internet.

The business was born out of a challenge its founders, Sinclair Toffa and Chris Fernandes, encountered while working as engineers at Palantir, where they connected fragmented systems for Fortune 100 firms. Mural says many global companies rely on a patchwork of financial tools, banking partners and compliance providers to deliver financial products, with no single layer tying them together. The company presents itself as a reimagining of that integration work, built specifically for the financial sector.

Mural offers a single platform covering the accounts, payments, identity and compliance functions that sit behind its customers’ financial products. It takes responsibility for the licences, banking relationships, and both local and blockchain payment rails needed to operate in multiple markets. Its forward deployed engineers work directly with clients in each market and support them through launch.

Clients such as Deel, Opera and Axexo use Mural to run services including payroll and remittances. Since its API went live in 2025, the company has handled $2.1bn in payment volume for end users across 128 countries, and its volume so far in 2026 is close to six times the figure for the whole of 2025.

The firm is also positioning itself for the rise of AI agents in finance. Citing McKinsey and Artemis Analytics, Mural noted that real-world stablecoin payments more than doubled in 2025 to approximately $390bn, while businesses have begun accepting payments initiated by AI agents. Mural argues that when an agent transfers funds, there must be clarity over who authorised the transaction and who bears responsibility. Its accounts already enforce limits, restrict payments to approved counterparties, require sign-off on larger transfers, and log every action in an audit trail. Although these controls were originally designed for human users, the company says they are equally suited to agents.
