Guadalajara, Jal. At 62 years old, the Jalisco Livestock Expo has consolidated itself as the main livestock business platform in Mexico, having as one of its strategic pillars the commercialization of genetics for the improvement of livestock herds, Servando de Loza, coordinator of the exhibition, told El Economista.
The meeting that brings together national and international producers, breeders and buyers, seeks to multiply commercial opportunities in the agricultural sector and promote the development of the countryside, a strategic activity for the economy of Jalisco and the entire region.
In its 62nd edition, the exhibition that takes place at the facilities of the Regional Livestock Union of Jalisco (UGRJ), is the venue for eight national livestock exhibitions and has the participation of more than 2,500 animals, a figure that, according to De Loza, stands out both for its volume and for the quality of the specimens.
“We are excited that they choose us as the venue for these national exhibitions because Jalisco is the hotbed of genetics in Mexico; there will be states with greater production, but genetics for marbling, weight gain, for reproduction and for nutritional efficiency, Jalisco is the leader,” he stressed.
Within the framework of Expo Ganadera Jalisco, the national Swiss-American, Swiss-European, Brangus, Simmental and Hereford cattle competitions are held. In sheep, the Pelifolk National Sheep Championship will be held, in addition to the national Equine and Donkey and Mule exhibitions.
Genetic specialization
Servando De Loza highlighted that genetic specialization is one of the main attractions of the exhibition, because it allows producers to access specimens with characteristics aimed at improving the productivity and efficiency of their livestock units.
For this reason, buyers from different entities in the country, as well as from the United States and Central America, participate in the exhibition, interested in acquiring genetics through direct operations or auctions organized within the framework of national exhibitions and samples of different breeds.
economic spill
During the previous year, cattle transactions carried out within the framework of the Jalisco Livestock Expo reached 14 million pesos, the coordinator said.
Added to that amount is the marketing of goats, although, he said, there is no consolidated estimate of the operations, because a good part of them are carried out directly between individuals.
The economic impact of the exhibition also extends to the commercial and service activities that develop during the meeting. During the month that the event lasts, from October 7 to November 2, the attendance of nearly 500,000 visitors is expected, whose presence generates consumption in commercial establishments in addition to generating direct and indirect jobs.
In addition to cattle and goats, the agenda includes horses, sheep and other species, including donkeys and mules, which are part of the exhibitions and scheduled activities.
