The lack of generational change has left the future and the continuity of a long series of events in the air. business of all types and caliber in the Balearic Islands. Especially in Mallorca. The closure and end of business and even artisan traditions that go back several generations and are even centuries old threatens these establishments, whose owners have found a tool, a point of support when trying to pass the baton and preserve the essence of businesses that, in many cases, are part of the landscape of neighborhoods or towns of the islands. The retirement of their owners and the lack of relief or internal promotion or the lack of labor, among other factors, leads many of the owners of these small businesses to make a decision and value the continuity of businesses for which they have fought for decades or generations.

The program Ibrelleu, promoted by the Department of Business, Self-Employed and Energy of the Government, through the Regional Development Agency of the Illes (ADRBalears), has the mission of promoting the transfer of businesses in operation in order to avoid their closure or disappearance, within the work strategy of the Business Replacement Plan. On the web www.adrbalears.es/ibrelleu offers details and information regarding this initiative.

The initiative promotes that transmission, development and continuity of activity and employment. And it does so through planned, supervised and efficient business replacement processes. In this way, we fight against the aging of different sectors, betting on this business replacement, in addition to promoting the transfer of fully operational companies, through initiatives that help increase their possibility of continuity; In the same way, the aim is to stimulate the entrepreneurial spirit.

Meeting point

The Ibrelleu program allows people, entrepreneurs or business owners and businesses who They want to give up that company due to retirement or the need to change their livesseeking continuity in the figure of young entrepreneurs who seek to start a new business project and who find here a possibility or a catalog of options. From ovens, catering establishments, hardware stores, mechanical workshops, hairdressers, carpentry shops and even a fishing boat, the catalog is important and varied.

The Ibrelleu program has served a total of 360 users between 2024, 2025 and 2026, closing a total of sixteen transactions successfully, with twenty of them currently in process.

The chances of success when starting a business in operation are much greater than when starting from scratch, as ADRBaleares has been able to verify. The program Ibrelleu has served a total of 360 users between 2024, 2025 and 2026, successfully closing a total of sixteen transactionswith around twenty of them currently in process or underway.

The meeting point for those looking for that relief and those looking for an opportunity to start a business is found in the marketplace that Ibrelleu has. The catalog is displayed there and information is published regarding the businesses that are transferred. Currently, there are 45 advertisements published and an information campaign is being developed through stickers with QR codes in the transferring businesses that request it, seeking to make their position and situation visible, in addition to making themselves visible through social networks, where a positive response has been observed. We also work with more than twenty town councils on the islands through ADRBaleares to address requests from nearby establishments.

Services

Since Ibrelleu A personalized and free advisory service is offered to both parties, the transferor and the entrepreneur.which includes aspects such as the valuation of the company itself, the publication of the advertisement on the website, the accompaniment in the negotiations and the drafting of the necessary legal documentation throughout the purchase and sale or transfer process. Currently, we are waiting for up to five companies to submit documentation relating to their businesses in order to carry out an assessment and, if interested, publish their advertisements.

From ovens, catering establishments, hardware stores, mechanical workshops, hairdressers, carpentry shops and even a fishing boat, the catalog is important and varied.

In the same way, The Department of Business, Self-Employed and Energy of the Government has a new subsidy line aimed at promoting generational change on the islands, allocating a total of 100,000 euros in order to finance administrative procedures for the transfer of the business and modernization of the company. This aid seeks to avoid the closure of viable businesses due to the retirement of their owners or managers, and can cover the administrative expenses derived from the transfer and updating of the business itself. Until now, advice and support in the process was offered through the Ibrelleu program, now adding this amount to speed up and facilitate the success of the transfers, thus avoiding the closure of companies and the possible loss of jobs.

This call for subsidies has two main lines. On the one hand, a sum of 60,000 euros is intended to support the generational change, financing actions and expenses derived from the transfer of ownership of the business, thus protecting the business fabric, maintaining jobs and emblematic establishments and at the same time boosting the local economy. Up to 80% of eligible expenses are subsidized, with a maximum of up to 8,000 euros.

The other item, of 40,000 euros, focuses on the modernization of commerce, services and industry, financing modernization strategies based on digital technology to optimize processes, improve management and communication with the client and physical and online marketing, in addition to implementing digital payment systems and new marketing and digital presence strategies. Companies will be able to benefit from these two programs, with a maximum of 12,000 in aid.
