The figures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s expenditure related to foreign travels have been presented in the Rajya Sabha, under which many interesting figures have come to light. One big information out of this is that for every Re 1 spent by PM Modi on foreign trips between 2021 and 2025, there is a foreign investment of Rs 66,000.

Rs 482.92 crore spent on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits between 2021 and 2025, while direct foreign inflows worth Rs 381.8 billion during the period April 2021 to December 2025 investment (FDI) received.

Now if we compare both the figures, for every ₹1 spent on PM’s foreign visits, India has received foreign direct investment of about ₹65,000-66,000 during this period.

However, this is only a calculation and should not be taken as evidence that foreign travel led to investment. No such claim has been made by the government nor is there any relation between expenditure and investment.

foreign travel expenses
With India’s strategic expansion after the pandemic, the expenditure on the Prime Minister’s foreign trips has continuously increased. According to the data, the government spent ₹36.12 crore on three foreign tours in 2021. The expenditure on seven tours in 2022 increased to ₹55.83 crore, followed by ₹93.63 crore on six tours in 2023. The expenditure crossed the ₹100 crore mark in 2024, reaching ₹109.51 crore on 11 tours, and then increased to ₹187.83 crore on 11 overseas programs in 2025. The government has so far announced an expenditure of about Rs 74.59 crore for 2026. However, if there are still trips to be made, this expense may increase further.

If we look at all these tours, PM Modi made 38 foreign tours between April 2021 and December 2025, in which a total of ₹ 482.92 crore was spent and the total foreign investment was 381.8 billion US dollars.

Invest ₹66,000 at Rs 1 expense
According to government data, India received foreign direct investment of US $ 381.8 billion between April 2021 and December 2025, which is equivalent to about Rs 31.69 lakh crore at an assumed exchange rate of Rs 83 per US dollar.

During the same period, the government Narendra Modi Spent ₹482.92 crore on foreign trips. If we calculate, for every ₹ 1 spent on foreign trips, foreign direct investment (FDI) of about ₹ 65,620 or about ₹ 66,000 was received.

trade and investment relations
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in its reply said that the Prime Minister’s high-level visits have been focused on building closer relations with foreign countries and promoting India’s engagement at bilateral, regional and global levels. According to the government, these visits and the agreements signed have promoted partnership in different areas including technology, innovation, trade and investment, defence, economic cooperation and supply chain.
