Delinquency of loans to families registered a slight decrease in August, after months of deterioration, although it remained close to the 13%. Among companies, however, arrears continued to increase.
The contrast arises from Report on Banks that the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) published yesterday and shows that difficulties in paying debts persist, even when general indicators begin to stabilize.
According to the survey of BCRAthe default on loans to families went from 12,94% al 12,81%while that of companies rose from 3,62% al 3,80%. The irregularity of credit to the private sector practically did not change: it increased from 7,73% al 7,75%. The average, however, brings together two different behaviors.
Slight improvement in family debts
The drop in August is not enough to reverse the accumulated deterioration. A year earlier, the delinquency of family loans was around 6,6%so the indicator practically doubled in twelve months. The improvement was not uniform either: arrears decreased on credit cards, but increased on personal and collateral loans. Added to this situation is the recourse to refinancing.
According to calculations of Consultant 1816 about the BCRA Debtors Centralspread by Bloomberg Line At the end of September, refinanced debts represented the 3,8% of bank credit to families in August, compared to 3,6% of July. The balance of these obligations exceeded $2.7 billion.
The consulting firm’s analysis also found that Delinquency increased in 17 of the 30 main financial entities, despite the slight reduction in the aggregate indicator. In that same survey, 1816 indicated that the balance of family loans in arrears decreased in real terms for the first time since March 2024.
Companies with payment difficulties
Among companies, delinquencies increased 0.18 percentage points and arrived at 3,80%although it still remains below the level recorded among families. The increase in arrears coincided with an expansion of productive financing.
Loans to companies grew 1,3% real during August and the total balance of loans to the private sector increased 0,7% real. In contrast, credit to households remained practically unchanged.
Outside the banking system, payment difficulties present another dimension. According to the analysis of 1816, the irregularity of family loans granted by non-financial entities reached the 33,9% in August, after 21 consecutive months of increases.
This indicator corresponds to another universe of lenders and should not be confused or compared directly with bank delinquency of the 12,81%.
