To tease out party bias related to presidential authority, the survey asked respondents if they believed a president should have the ability to raise tariffs on a range of goods, including automobiles, consumer goods, lumber, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, solar panels, and steel and aluminum. Respondents were asked the question with a randomized description of the president (Republican, Democrat, or one without affiliation).
