This Tuesday, October 20, in the Plenary Hall, the award ceremony took place. Awards for the Best Business Initiative 2024a call promoted through the Delegation of Employment, Commerce and Economic Development to recognize the effort, creativity and entrepreneurial capacity of people who contribute to the socioeconomic development of the municipality.

The event was attended by the mayor of the city, Pepe Barroso, the delegate of Employment, Commerce and Economic Development, Cristina Fernández; the manager of the Association of Small and Medium Entrepreneurs of Lebrija (APYME), María Dolores Bernal; the representative of the Andalusian Entrepreneurship Center (CADE) of Lebrija, Ana Dorantes, and the municipal Economic Development technician, María José Bellido.

The main objectives of these awards are to promote entrepreneurship, encourage the launch of new business initiatives and recognize the contribution of small and medium-sized businesses to the economic and social development of Lebrija, especially for their role in generating employment, wealth and opportunities.

For the granting of the awards, aspects have been assessed such as the innovative nature of the projects, the use of local resources, the promoters’ belonging to priority groups in terms of employment, the economic sector of activity, social involvement, environmental commitment and the prospects for the future viability of the companies.

During the event, Pepe Barroso highlighted the importance of the daily work of self-employed and entrepreneurial people, as well as the need to continue supporting local businesses and businesses. In this sense, he highlighted that supporting local businesses through consumption in the city itself is a direct way to contribute to maintaining employment, economic dynamism and the well-being of citizens.

Three recognized business initiatives

First prize: Judit García Velázquez, Patidifusa Art and Crafts Workshop

The first prize went to Judit García Velázquez for her business initiative linked to art and crafts. Their project began in April 2024 with the organization of creative workshops, taking its first steps in the field of self-employment.

Multidisciplinary plastic artist and artisan accredited with the Andalusian Craft Charter, recognized by the Junta de Andalucía, Judit has opted to bring artistic creation closer to citizens from an open, accessible and participatory perspective.

Their project evolves into an independent cultural proposal conceived as a meeting point for people interested in art, creativity and crafts. Among its main objectives are the democratization of creative processes, the elimination of barriers in access to art and the strengthening of local cultural identity.

The initiative represents a commitment to cultural entrepreneurship and the creation of spaces that encourage participation, artistic expression and the revitalization of the environment.

Second prize: Francisco Manuel López Captain, Pilates Center

The second prize has been awarded to Francisco Manuel López Capitán for the launch of the Pilates Center in March 2024, a project aimed at physical exercise, health and well-being.

The initiative stands out for offering personalized attention, based on professionalism, closeness and adaptation of activities to the needs of each user. Its promoter is committed to continuous training and updating of knowledge to improve the quality of services and promote safe physical practice.

Located on a commercial street in Lebrija, the center has the collaboration of three other professionals, thus reinforcing its capacity for attention and its contribution to local economic activity.

This project reflects the value of self-employment as an opportunity for professional and personal development, as well as the importance of services linked to health and well-being in the municipality’s business fabric.

Third prize: M.ª Goretti Chernichero Caballero, Freiduría La Galera

The third prize went to M.ª Goretti Chernichero Caballero for her project Freiduría La Galera, an initiative that arose from her desire to develop her own business activity and make work compatible with her family responsibilities.

The business has been able to identify a market opportunity through a varied offer of fish and preparations, with products purchased daily in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The experience and knowledge of the family environment in the fishing sector have contributed to the development of the activity.

The company has a human team and kitchen facilities with the capacity to handle its activity, consolidating itself as a recognizable proposal within the local gastronomic offer.

His career highlights the role of entrepreneurship as a way to generate professional autonomy, respond to consumer demands and contribute to the diversification of Lebrija’s business fabric.
