The Academy of Financial Education: Free “A Wealth of Wisdom” workshop in Los Angeles will show you how to get better with money

WESTLAKE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Rising prices have many people talking, especially in the Hispanic community.

“More people want to know how others are surviving, how they’re doing, how they’re making ends meet,” said Samuel Molina, CEO of The Academy of Financial Education.

But, when it comes to financial advice, consider the source.

“Licensed investment advisors do not provide investment advice on social media,” Molina warns. “They can lose their Series 7, Series 6 license if they do that.”

In a moment when struggles over gas and groceries have many looking to maximize their financial potential, Molina encouraged people to do their homework.

“There’s a lot of misconceptions around debt online,” he said. “I’ll see folks saying, ‘Hey, if, you know, a debt collector buys your debt, you’re no longer responsible for that.’ That’s not true.”

The Academy of Financial Education will host its inaugural “A Wealth of Wisdom” event this Saturday, offering a day of free community training, resources and connection.

The event will gather a panel of experts and community partners to share their financial journeys, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at CARECEN Los Angeles.

SPEAKERS: ‘A Wealth of Wisdom’ LA Workshop

Molina said the event, taking place during Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month, was designed to fuel opportunity and financial well-being for for multigenerational Latino and immigrant families, as well as college-bound Latino students.

“Our mission is for people to have a healthier relationship with money,” Molina said. “Whether you think you do or not, you do have a relationship with money, and it’s important that you have control of it, right?”

For those who are ready to start planning for their futures, Molina said financial professionals will be on site who can meet one-on-one, with no pressure.

Registration is free, but not required, and participants will also have the chance to win raffle prizes as part of Saturday’s event.

CARECEN Los Angeles is in Westlake, at 2845 W 7th St, Los Angeles, CA 90005.
