The Texas A&M University Office of the Provost recently approved the creation of the School of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution. The move aims to enhance and elevate efficiency in one of the College of Engineering’s most interdisciplinary departments and its role in workforce development.
The school will formally be established Aug. 15, 2027, pending approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. No current degree programs will change as a result.
“Students graduating from the Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution are sought after because they fill a clear need in the workforce,” said Dr. Robert H. Bishopvice chancellor and dean of Texas A&M Engineering. “The school will serve as an umbrella organization closely aligned with the department’s overall mission to foster interdisciplinary research collaborations and train our students in applied areas.”
The new school will also create a more agile department by establishing more distinctive identities for the industrial distribution side and the engineering technology side, according to officials.
While the department’s degrees are distinct, they each span a spectrum of technology-related activities that have evolved together and often intersect.
The programs focus on project-based learning and experiential education. Many courses share facilities such as laboratories and strive to offer students the opportunity to put theory into practice under a unified framework.
