Tesla is likely to manage a solid recovery after 2025, though its product portfolio doesn’t provide much room for further growth over the next five years

Automotive World forecasts that Tesla’s production will recover in 2026, but growth may remain sluggish through to 2030. Output is expected to rise 8% to about 1.79 million units this year, close to the 2023 record of 1.85 million, driven by cheaper ‘Standard’ Model 3/Y variants, high oil prices and a 43% rebound in European registrations.

The Model 3 and Model Y still make up about 97% of deliveries, and no all-new conventional model is planned beyond the Roadster. Cybertruck demand has not lived up to expectations, and the outlook for Cybercab production is uncertain, with long-term success depending on regulatory approval as well as customer acceptance.

At best, the Cybercab could be a slow-burn; at worst, a damp squib. If it proves a moderate success, 40,000 units could be produced by the end of 2028. Semi output is expected to reach 7,000 by the same year, while Cybertruck begins its gradual descent at 16,000.

Profitability will likely come under notable strain from 2027 onwards, as regulatory credit income diminishes and AI spending rises. To learn more about Tesla’s recent performance and future production prospects, read Automotive World’s latest OEM Outlook.
