tellantis and Wayve are testing whether one AI driving model can serve brands as different as Fiat, Jeep and Maserati
Stellantis and Wayve have demonstrated supervised hands-free driving from door to door on development versions of the Fiat 500e and Maserati Grecale, each moving from integration to road testing in under four weeks. The level 2++ system, which pairs Wayve AI Driver with Stellantis’ STLA AutoDrive platform, is due to launch in North America in 2028.
Shown at Wave by Vento in Turin, the two cars follow a Jeep Grand Cherokee integration earlier in 2026, after the partnership was announced in May. A city car and a premium SUV test its central claim: that one AI driving model can adapt to differing geometry, dynamics and sensor layouts across brands.
“We’re building a general-purpose AI Driver that can power any vehicle, anywhere,” Alex Kendall, co-founder and Chief Executive of Wayve, said. “Together with Stellantis, we first integrated our technology into a Jeep Grand Cherokee earlier this year. Now, we’ve brought the same core intelligence to the Fiat 500e and Maserati Grecale — three very different vehicles with distinct configurations. This progress shows how embodied AI can become the foundation automakers build on to deliver safe, intelligent and delightful driving experiences at global scale.”
Wayve’s end-to-end software learns from real-world driving and needs no high-definition maps, hand-coded rules or custom hardware. The partners intend the same foundation to underpin future level 4 driverless services on Stellantis’ L4-Ready Platforms, each validated separately.
