Dr. Luc Julia, one of the minds behind Siri, is set to give the opening keynote at the Global Travel Futures Forum in Paris on October 29, TradeArabia News Service reported. The two-day gathering, scheduled for October 28 and 29, is being arranged by the Global Resilience Network alongside Atout France, the European Travel Commission, the European Tourism Association and Sorbonne University, and will draw around 250 senior figures from travel, technology, government, finance and academia.

Discussions at the forum will center on how rival artificial intelligence systems might transform the global travel economy, with particular attention to the separate AI ecosystems taking shape in the United States, Europe, China, the Middle East and India. Rather than crowning a single dominant AI model, the event will focus on how travel organizations and travelers can function across systems that diverge on innovation, sovereignty, data, trust and scale.

Julia, who is credited as a pioneer in AI and connected devices, will take the stage at the Hotel de l’Industrie on October 29. His background includes serving as chief scientific officer at Renault Group, where he rolled out what was called the world’s first in-car large language model avatar, and as chief technology officer and senior vice president of innovation at Samsung. During his keynote, AI Without the Hype: What Artificial Intelligence Can and Cannot Do, he will push back against overstated claims about machine intelligence and explore where technological capability ends and human responsibility begins. BBC presenter Rajan Datar, who hosts the forum, will then join him for a discussion.

Travel serves as a crucial testing ground for how competing AI ecosystems interact, given that one international trip can span airlines, airports, rail networks, hotels, payment systems, identity checks and digital platforms in several countries. With AI agents increasingly handling search, planning, booking, payment and disruption management for travelers, the forum will probe who controls an increasingly fragmented journey, who holds traveler identity and data across borders, and how rival AI agents, payment systems and mobility networks can communicate with one another.

Laurie Myers, chief executive and global strategist of the Global Resilience Network, said AI is not arriving as a single global system governed by one set of rules, and that travel cannot prepare for just one future. Myers added that resilience will hinge on operating across competing ecosystems while safeguarding trust and human agency, and that Paris places those futures side by side and asks what leaders must do now.

The forum’s flagship session, You’ve Only Seen One Future: Five AI Pathways Meet in Paris, will compare developments across the United States, Europe and the UK, China, the Middle East and India. Later sessions will explore the consequences for identity, payments, mobility, interoperability, data governance, ethics and human agency.

Among confirmed speakers are European Travel Commission chief executive Eduardo Santander, European Commission Tourism Unit Director General Maximilian Strotmann, European Tourism Association chief executive Tom Jenkins and Atout France chief executive Adam Oubieh. Representatives from Alibaba and Fliggy, BCGHBX Group, Caisse des DepotsAlibaba Cloud and Sabre are also expected to take part.

The forum unfolds against a backdrop of uneven AI adoption across Europe. European Commission data cited by the Global Resilience Network placed enterprise AI use in the EU at 13.5 percent in 2024, while a Eurostat 2025 survey puts adoption at 20 percent, with country figures ranging from 42 percent in Denmark to 5.2 percent in Romania.

The program opens on October 28 at Sorbonne University with an academic and intergenerational event centered on AI, traveler behavior, the future workforce and tourism in 2030, including results from a Generation Z survey.

The Paris forum is part of the Global Resilience Network’s broader international AI program, which has included discussions on Chinese AI systems with the European Travel Commission and Atout France, a May 2026 visit to Alibaba’s headquarters in Hangzhou and executive sessions at Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. The program will carry on at World Travel Market London from November 3 to 5 and head back to China in May 2027.
