Rangers European prospects update: Eriksen scores 1st goal in SHL

New York Rangers News It was an important week for one of the New York Rangers top prospects playing in Europe. It was an important week for one of the New York Rangers top prospects playing in Europe. Mikkel Eriksen, a member of New York’s 2025 Draft Class (fourth round, No. 11 overall), scored his first goal in Sweden’s top league, in his first game back after playing in the second division.

There were more highlights and news nuggets from the five other Rangers prospects in Europe, as well.

Let’s take a look.

Mikkel Eriksen – Färjestad BK (Sweden)

Two weeks ago, Eriksen was loaned to Mora IK in Sweden’s second tier, HockeyAllsvenskan. In those two weeks the 19-year-old Norwegian center played a total of four games, recording 12 shots on goal and averaging 15:12 TOI.

On Saturday, just 12 hours after playing for Mora, Eriksen was recalled by Farjestad., He traveled back to Karlstad and was in the lineup, playing wing on the second line. In a close game with HV71, Eriksen got his chance late in the third to put the game away.

After a tough battle in the corner by Eriksen which led to sustained pressure in the offensive zone, former Boston Bruins winger Oskar Steen controlled the puck behind the net. Eriksen positioned himself on the edge of the face-off circle and from a tight angle, he scored his very first SHL goal — a memorable moment for sure.

It was difficult for Eriksen to crack the lineup with Färjestad, who are currently in second place behind Frölunda in the SHL. Perhaps his goal on Saturday will provide him with more opportunities in their top-six forward group.

Rico Gredig – EV Zug (Switzerland)

Over in Switzerland, Rico Gredig appeared in two games for EV Zug last week. Following his assist the previous week, Gredig notched another one Tuesday in a 5-2 win over Michael Del Zotto’s old team, Rapperswil Jona Lakers. In 13:38 TOI, the 21-year-old finished with plus-2 in what was his team’s third victory of the season.

Sunday saw a tougher opponent in Geneve-Servette, featuring former Rangers forwards Jimmy Vesey and Josh Jooris. Offensively, Gredig was more noticeable, with some great rushes up the ice leading to several shots on goal. But puck luck was not on his side, and he could not prevent a 2-1 loss to the second-ranked team in the National League, Switzerland’s top tier of hockey.

Tomáš Chrenko – HK Nitra (Slovakia)

Over to Slovakia where Tomáš Chrenko extended his point-streak to three games with assists on Tuesday and Friday, before being held off the score sheet on Sunday, in what was only Nitra’s second win of the season.

After Nitra conceded three goals in the first period Tuesday, they tried to claw their way back, and Chrenko was right in the middle of it all.. Halfway through the second period, Chrenko set up former Islanders forward Dmytro Timashov to cut the deficit down to two. It didn’t lead to a resurgence, though, and Chrenko and Nitra once again found themselves on the losing side of the scoreboard, falling 5-3 to Liptovsky Mikulas.

Friday HK Nitra traveled to Michalovce to face HK Dukla, a team Nitra is battling with at the bottom of the standings. Lucas Edmonds, who played for Hartford in the American Hockey League in 2024-25 after the Rangers acquired the forward in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning, recorded a hat trick in a 6-5 win for HK Dukla.

With the game pretty much done and dusted, Chrenko did not give up on the play in the offensive zone to pick up an assist and help cut the deficit to just one goal, but it wasn’t enough to earn any points in the standings. His point-streak came to an end on Sunday when Nitra won their game with nine seconds left in overtime.

Samuel Jung – KalPa (Finland)

Samuel Jung played in both games for KalPa’s junior team this week. The 20-year-old Czech winger recorded 15 shots on goal and averaged 22 minutes of ice-time. He was plus-1, but did not record any points in a 3-2 shootout win nor a 4-2 regulation victory.

Rasmus Larsson – Hudiksvalls (Sweden)

Larsson, a sixth-round pick three years ago, played in his team’s only game last week, recording one shot on goal and finishing plus-1 in an 8-0 win.

Ivan Patrikhayev – CSKA Moscow (Russia)

Ivan Patrikhayev did not play this past week, a healthy scratch in each of CSKA’s games. The defenseman, a 2026 seventh-round draft pick by the Rangers, has one assist in five games played. As a younger player on a powerhouse KHL team, Patrikhayev has been a healthy scratch eight times this season. CSKA (10-3-0) is tied for first in the Western Conference with Lokomotiv, each team has 20 points.
