In the festive season, railway employees are waiting for bonus before Durga Puja and Diwali. Till now there is a provision to give 78 days bonus to railway workers. It may be announced soon after approval in the cabinet meeting. It is being said that the amount of bonus can be Rs 17,951, whereas the railway employees are demanding a bonus of Rs 53,855 on the minimum salary of Rs 18,000 instead of the old ceiling of Rs 7,000. Meanwhile, a letter in the name of Railways is going viral on social media, in which it is being said that a bonus of Rs 41,149 will be given. Railway Board has told the truth of this letter.
What did the Railway Board tell?
Railway Board has termed this letter going viral on social media regarding Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) of Railway employees as fake. Taking the matter seriously, the Railway Board has made it clear that this letter going viral is completely fake and fake.
The Board has directed all zones, production units and concerned officials of the Railways to ignore this letter and not to make any payment or take any action based on it.
Fake signature on viral letter
A letter in the name of Railway Board was being shared extensively on social media and different messaging platforms. On this letter RBE No. 101/2026 and the date of 6 October 2026 was recorded. What’s more… a fake signature of a Railway Board official was used.
In the fake letter, it was said that productivity linked bonus equivalent to 78 days’ salary would be given to eligible non-gazetted railway employees for the financial year 2025-26. It also claims payment of Rs 41,149 per employee.
What did the Railway Board say?
The Establishment Directorate of Railway Board issued an official clarification in this matter on 7 October 2026. In this, Deputy Director Manoj Kumar has said that the viral letter is unauthorized and has not been issued by the Railway Board.
The Board has directed all zonal railways, production units, financial advisors and other concerned offices to completely ignore this fake document.
On the basis of this, bonus should not be paid to any employee or any administrative action should be taken.
Instructions for FIR against those making fake letters
Railway Board has also given instructions to take legal action in this matter. The Board has directed the Director General of Railway Protection Force (RPF) to register an FIR in the matter under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS).
Its purpose is to take legal action against those who prepare fake railway documents and spread confusion through social media.
Important warning for employees
Railways has appealed to the employees and officers not to rely on any information related to bonus or any other financial benefit based on messages on social media.
For such information related to Railway Board, only orders issued through official channels should be considered valid. Payment or administrative action should not be taken on the basis of any unauthorized letter, message or social media post.
That is, currently the Railway Board has declared the letter of 78 days bonus and payment of Rs 41,149 viral on social media as fake. Employees have been advised to be cautious of such messages.
Government may announce bonus soon
The central government can announce the annual bonus of railway employees by next week. It is expected that a decision on this will be taken in the cabinet meeting. This time too, railway employees are likely to get 78 days’ bonus, but the question is whether the ceiling of Rs 7,000 is removed or not.
Central Railway Employees Union (ECREU) has written a letter to the government and the Cabinet Secretary. The organization has written that till now the minimum salary in Railways is Rs 7,000 and a bonus of Rs 17,951 is given for 78 days.
The organization said, ‘Industrial Bonus is available in Coal India, whereas Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) is available in Railway, Post-Telegraph Departments and this bonus is available on the basis of minimum salary of one month, which till now was Rs 7000.
The organization said, ‘Now the Union Labor Ministry has recently fixed the minimum wage at Rs 21,000 through a gazette notification. So, PLB (Bonus) should be paid to the railway employees considering the same. On this basis, 78 days bonus is made, 690 x 78 = Rs 53,855 should be given.
