The following is a press release written by Desiree DeMolina for the City of Bloomington.
The City of Bloomington announced today the appointment of Ryan Pedigo as Deputy Chief of City of Bloomington Police Department (BPD). Pedigo brings more than 24 years of service in policing, including 19 years with BPD, to his new leadership role.
Since joining BPD, Pedigo has held several positions of increasing responsibility, including Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, and Lieutenant. In his most recent role as Captain of Administration, a position held since 2019, Pedigo oversaw officer recruitment and hiring, the Records Division, Central Emergency Dispatch, Mental Health Professionals Unit, and departmental accreditation. He has also served as BPD’s primary public information officer.
During his tenure with the department, Pedigo led BPD through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accreditation process. In just 15 months, he comprehensively rewrote and refined the department’s general orders, policies, and procedures to meet national accreditation standards, leading BPD to achieve full Tier 1 accreditation in 2018. The department has since maintained its accredited status, most recently earning reaccreditation for the third consecutive cycle in July 2026.
“Ryan understands this department from the ground up and has demonstrated the judgment, discipline, and leadership required to move it forward,” said Bloomington Police Chief Michael Diekhoff. “I have every confidence in his ability to uphold our standards, support our officers, and strengthen the trust we work to earn from the community every day.”
Pedigo began his law enforcement career with Owen County Sheriff’s Office before joining BPD. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and criminology from Ball State University where he graduated cum laude in 2002 and graduated with honors from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2004. He is also a certified crash reconstructionist.
As Deputy Chief, Pedigo will assist in managing and directing the department’s efforts to foster a safe and welcoming community where everyone has a place to belong, a high level of agency professionalism, and maintain trust between the police department and those who live and visit the City of Bloomington.
