The city of Palencia will invest 1.67 million euros in technologywill install 50 sensors to measure pedestrian flows and will incorporate artificial intelligence and data analysis to help shops, hospitality establishments and companies to improve their activity and be more competitive.
These actions are part of the project Palencia Smart Economy Labwhich will mobilize an investment of 1.67 million euros and it is 60 percent financed by Red.es. The initiative joins the recent national award obtained by the Palencia company Alsos IoT already city’s candidacy to host a scientific meeting in 2027.
This Friday, the mayor, Miriam Andrés; the Councilor for Economic Impulse, Judith Castroand the CEO of Alsos IoT, Fernando González Díezhave presented the progress of the municipal innovation strategydriven through the Local Development Agency (ADL).
1.6 million and 75 establishments
The project Palencia Smart Economy Labapproved within the RedCyTI program of Red.es, will mobilize an investment of 1.673.021,95 euros and provides for the participation of 75 establishments.
Includes the creation of a digital census of the economic fabrica data platformtools artificial intelligencestudies on the consumer behavior y personalized business advice. The goal is to convert the collected information into useful recommendations so that establishments know their surroundings better and can make decisions that improve your competitiveness.
The presentation has also served to highlight the Innpulso Emprende award to Ciudad Laboratorio obtained by Alsis Orientea project of Alsos IoT and the ESALAB team from the University of Salamanca that uses a digital twin to facilitate orientation and accessibility in public buildings. The initiative represented Palencia in the national meeting held in Terrassa on September 29 and 30.
Gonzalez Diez has defended in this regard that innovation should not be limited to supporting technology companiesbut it must also facilitate the entire economic fabric to know and take advantage of the solutions developed in the city. About Alsis Orienteexplained that the project arose from the need to prevent people from feeling lost when entering a building.
Candidacy for Science in Action
The third milestone is Palencia’s candidacy to host the Science in Action meeting in 2027which other cities such as Burgos, Castropol, Cieza, La Vall d’Uixó and Puerto Real.
The mayor has assured that all these initiatives are an example of the value of the economic and environmental sustainability of intermediate citieshighlighting the importance of plan based on a diagnosis of the business fabrictheir needs and opportunities for collaboration.
For her part, the councilor Judith Castro has pointed out that the three projects share the commitment to innovation and knowledge as tools for generate economic opportunities and improve services to citizens. Likewise, he has praised the work of the Local Development Agency in the preparation of applications, fundraising and the connection between companies, universities and administrations.
