Islamabad’s Foreign Ministry summoned India’s charge d’affaires to protest the killing of two Pakistani civilians.

Pakistan and India have summoned each other’s diplomats over a border incident on Friday, with New Delhi rejecting Islamabad’s account of an event that left two unarmed Pakistani civilians dead.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that the two were killed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Bedian sector along the international border. Another person was reportedly wounded.

“The BSF personnel resorted to unprovoked and lethal force against unarmed civilians. Such use of force was wholly unjustified and grossly disproportionate, resulting in the tragic loss of two precious lives,” it said, adding that it summoned India’s charge d’affaires to strongly protest the killings.

India’s Foreign Ministry later rejected what it called “baseless and motivated allegations”.

It said it had summoned the charge d’affaires of the Pakistan High Commission to protest the “continued facilitation of illegal cross-border infiltration from Pakistan”.

The ministry said three people had crossed into Indian territory in the Ferozepur sector of Punjab and continued moving towards the border fence despite multiple warnings from the BSF to return to Pakistan.

“The BSF was compelled to engage them for posing an imminent security threat,” the Indian ministry said.

In its statement, the Pakistani ministry said it “categorically” rejected any attempt to describe those killed as “infiltrators”.

It also urged India to “conduct an immediate, transparent and credible investigation”, take appropriate disciplinary and legal action against those found responsible, and formally communicate the findings and action taken to the Pakistani government.

India said the incident reflected “a clear pattern of repeated cross-border movement by armed narcotics syndicates operating from Pakistan” and urged Islamabad to investigate what it described as cross-border infiltration and drug-smuggling activities.

Relations between the neighbours have remained tense since an armed attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir in April 2025 killed 26 peopletriggering a four-day war. New Delhi continues to accuse Pakistan of backing the assault, which Islamabad denies.
