Oklahoma started the season ranked No. 10 in the country. The Sooners have since barely beaten New Mexico, lost two games and fallen out of the rankings. The season was a disappointment — until today.
Oklahoma stunned No. 1 Texas, 27-24winning its biggest game of the season and shocking the top-ranked team in the country with a game-winning field goal. It’s the first Red River Rivalry win for OU since 2023.

They say prior records go out the window in rivalry games, as anything can happen. Saturday in Dallas proved to be just that, as an undefeated Texas team saw chaos ensue against a previously struggling Sooners squad.
The Longhorns led 17-10 at halftime, but Oklahoma outscored Texas 17-7 in the fourth quarter. Perhaps no play was bigger than Sooner DB Peyton Bowen’s interception off of Arch Manning, which he returned 42 yards for a touchdown. It was Manning’s first pick-six of his college career, and one of many stunning moments in a game where Oklahoma also blocked a punt for a touchdown.

John Mateer, who had been having some turnover trouble in recent weeks, went 18-for-26 for 155 yards and no turnovers. Lloyd Avant had the lone offensive touchdown for the Sooners, with the pick-six and blocked punt accounting for the other two.
Prior to today, Oklahoma was 0-4-1 against a No. 1 Texas team. The Sooners now have a one in that win column, and pick up their eight win vs. AP No. 1 teams all-time. It’s only the third time the AP No. 1 team has lost to an unranked team since 2009.
