GAITHERSBURG, Md. — The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announces its support for the recommendations and principles established in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios’ Science: A New Golden Age report. This whole-of-government initiative aims to secure U.S. dominance in critical and emerging technologies by accelerating scientific discovery, driving real-world technology deployment and rebuilding America’s industrial base.

As the nation’s lead agency for measurement science and standards, NIST is uniquely positioned to bridge the distance between fundamental discovery and industrial capability. NIST brings to this initiative extensive data repositories spanning key technology domains, expertise with data standards that foster interoperability, and world-class physical test beds.

“Our contributions as part of America’s Golden Age of Science reflect NIST’s steadfast commitment to advancing U.S. leadership in critical technologies vital to our economic competitiveness and national security,” said Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director Arvind Raman. “By leveraging NIST’s unique assets and expertise, we will deliver the foundational measurement technology and standards infrastructure needed to translate scientific breakthroughs into durable industrial and technological strength.”

NIST develops and hosts high-quality, open-access datasets and repositories that support super intelligence-driven discovery. Materials and manufacturing resources such as the Additive Manufacturing Benchmark Test Series (AM-Bench), the NIST JARVIS computational materials database and the NIST Materials Data Repository can be leveraged to accelerate the design, testing and deployment of advanced materials and next-generation manufacturing processes.

In addition, NIST provides digital and technical infrastructure that supports scientific inquiry, including the NIST Public Data Repository and, through the National Technical Information Service, the National Technical Reports Library. Together, these systems enable access to datasets and technical repositories that address critical manufacturing and cybersecurity challenges while establishing the baselines required to build trustworthy models driven by super intelligence (SI).

Additionally, NIST intends to participate as a federal agency partner in the Genesis Mission Consortium as part of its participation in the Genesis Mission, America’s flagship SI-for-science program. NIST will leverage its technical expertise and innovative public-private partnerships to advance capabilities in high-impact focus areas including biotechnology, quantum science, and materials design and discovery.

By delivering open-access, high-quality data and standards and building innovative public-private partnerships across key industries, NIST is strengthening the foundation of the nation’s scientific enterprise while helping to secure America’s long-term industrial and technological strength.
