The deadline to register to vote in November’s midterm elections in North Carolina is this week.
You can complete a paper form and return it to your county elections board by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, the North Carolina State Board of Elections says. If the form is mailed, it has to be postmarked by that day.
You also can register online through the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles or in person at a DMV office.
North Carolina voters will decide major races including for a U.S. Senate seat, 14 U.S. House seats and all seats in both chambers of the General Assembly, in addition to local contests and three statewide referendums.
Early in-person voting begins Oct. 15 and runs through the end of the month. Election Day is Nov. 3.
“There’s still time to register to vote in the midterm elections,” said Sam Hayes, state board executive director. “And eligible individuals who miss this deadline to vote on Election Day can still register and vote during the early voting period.”
Same-day registration is an option during early voting with proof of residence.
State election officials began mailing out absentee ballots early last month, and 17,446 have been cast as of Oct. 1, according to the state board.
