Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Nana Patekar was someone as “grand on screen as he was in spirit”.
“He gifted an entire era to Marathi and Hindi cinema. From that, it was primarily his image as a patriot that resonated deeply with audiences,” he said, adding that “frankness” and “fearlessness” traits defined Patekar’s personality.
“Whether it was aiding farmers or extending a helping hand during times of drought, Nana always led from the front. Even this year, as we face the drought, Nana would never have lagged behind – but he left us so suddenly. I offer my heartfelt tribute to him. We share in the sorrow of his family and fans,” he said.
Such an untimely and sudden ‘exit’ of veteran actor and my close friend Nana Patekar is shocking. The mind is very sad. As big as Nana is on screen, he is also big in heart. He gave an era to Marathi and Hindi cinema. From that, the audience felt his image as a patriot. In his journey from ‘Krantiveer’ to ‘Natsamrat’, there is no break in the powerful and strong acting he has created. So his departure as an actor is a great loss. Toughness and fearlessness were the traits that revealed his personality. But ever since I became the Chief Minister, I have always seen the tender man in him. When we took up the Jalyukta Shivar Mission, Nana himself came forward to support it. Makarand Anaspureji and he came along and established the ‘Nam Foundation’ and himself went to Shivara and worked. Be it helping farmers, lending a helping hand in times of drought, Nana always remained a pioneer. This year too, when we were facing drought, Nana would never have stayed behind, but he suddenly left. I pay my heartfelt tribute to him. We share in the grief of his family and fans. Om Shanti 🙏
