A man was found shot to death in a vehicle in Kansas City’s Southmoreland neighborhood near Robert Gillham Park Saturday morning, police said.

Officers responded just after 10 a.m. to the 4200 block of Locust Street after a caller reported seeing someone slumped over in a vehicle.

According to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a police spokesperson, the officers found a man unresponsive in a vehicle parked on Locust Street.

Paramedics with the Kansas City Fire Department arrived at the same time as officers, and pronounced the man dead at the scene, DiMartino said. The man was found to have suffered a gunshot wound.

Police are investigating the man’s death as a homicide. No suspects have been identified as of Saturday, DiMartino said.

Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting. Investigators are looking for evidence, witnesses and surveillance footage, DiMartino said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact homicide unit detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

The killing is Kansas City’s 108th homicide this year, according to data tracked by The Star. At this time last year, the city had recorded 122 homicides.
