KUKA México expects its new Monterrey centre to double the number of engineers it trains in the country each year from around 550
Kuka México has opened an Innovation and Technology Development Center in Monterrey, which it expects to double its capacity to train engineers in robotics and automation. The company currently trains around 550 engineers a year in Mexico.
The 500 sq m facility sits within the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León’s (UANL) research and technology park. It will host Kuka’s Industrial Robot College and Mobile Robot College programmes, alongside technical support and hands-on demonstrations for automotive, intralogistics, electronics and metalworking applications. Robots for MIG welding, autonomous mobile robots for intralogistics and Kuka College training cells were on show at the opening.
“By establishing a stronger presence in Northern Mexico, we are working more closely with our customers, partners and educational institutions to expand robotic automation training,” said Christopher Hernandez Moya, Managing Director of Kuka México.
The opening coincides with Kuka’s 30th year in Mexico. Having started out serving the automotive industry in 1996, it now also works with electronics, consumer goods, food and beverage, logistics, healthcare and plastics manufacturers. Nuevo León is one of the centres of Mexican automotive and electronics production, so the site puts Kuka’s training closer to a major customer base.
