Kodiak AI says it is still on track to start unsupervised driverless long-haul operations before 2026 ends. Its autonomy readiness measure (ARM), tracking how much of the supporting safety case is complete, stood at 96% at the close of September against 93% a month earlier.

The ARM counts safety case claims and evidence that are materially complete, and has risen from 84% in February and 91% in July. Kodiak says the latest five-point gain more than doubles its earlier monthly pace. Sustained, that rate would close the gap before the deadline.

The highway case extends work already finished in the Permian Basin, where Atlas Energy Solutions had 35 Kodiak-equipped trucks running with empty cabs by the end of June 2026. Highway speeds are a harder test.

In a statement, Frank Fratrik, Director of Safety at Kodiak, said: “This month’s progress came from finishing the hazard analyses for the systems that take over if something goes wrong, and from strengthening the evidence based on an adversarial review of our safety argument. We continue to examine risks critically, even those that are highly unlikely to occur. The work still in front of us is well defined: completing the long-haul risk assessment with our Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) methodology and Breakpoint simulation tool, verifying our launch vehicle configuration, and demonstrating how the truck can ensure safety at highway speeds.”
