The automotive industry is entering a new era, one defined less by horsepower and more by compute power. The software platforms that allow vehicles to evolve over time are now becoming central to how they are designed, built, and experienced.
In this new environment, competition is intensifying and customer expectations are rising. Established OEMs are facing growing pressures, particularly from software-native entrants, who are reducing software-iteration timelines and placing a renewed emphasis on software proficiency and faster development. For many OEMs, this competition poses an existential threat. This tension is especially felt by Japanese automakers navigating lengthy, expensive development cycles and deep supply-chain dependencies.
Against this backdrop, Applied Intuition and Honda have entered a partnership to accelerate the development of software-defined vehicles. Together, the companies will build a consolidated, upgradable Honda SDV platform leveraging Applied Intuition’s Vehicle OS software and development tooling. The partnership deepens a relationship that began in 2019, when Honda became Applied Intuition’s first OEM customer in Japan.

“Honda is a world-class, technology-forward automaker, and we’re thrilled to work shoulder to shoulder with them,” says Qasar Younis, co-founder and CEO of Applied Intuition. “This partnership is about combining strengths and aligning teams around a shared goal.”
The partnership pairs Honda’s decades of vehicle engineering expertise with Applied Intuition’s software and AI technology, and brings together engineering teams in Japan and Silicon Valley. The companies aim to accelerate Honda’s transition to AI-powered software development.
Software is increasingly an enduring differentiator in the automotive industry, enabling vehicles to continuously improve and adapt to customer needs over time. A platform built at Honda’s scale must support millions of vehicles while upholding the quality, reliability, and engineering discipline the company is known for.
“In the latest generation of vehicles, software is becoming increasingly important,” says Mahito Shikama, chief officer, Corporate Strategy Operations of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. “We believe software-defined vehicles will shape the future of the automotive industry and speed of software development will be one of the key competitive advantages for Honda’s vehicles. It’s critical to have experienced partners to collaborate with.”
Applied Intuition’s Vehicle OS software will serve as the software foundation for the platform. By abstracting differences between powertrains and unifying legacy and modern software workflows, it enables a single software architecture that spans electric, hybrid, and internal combustion vehicles. The result is faster development timelines, greater software reusability, and the flexibility to evolve vehicles over time without fundamentally changing the underlying platform.
Together, Applied Intuition and Honda are establishing a partnership grounded in shared engineering rigor, global teamwork, and a common view of how software will shape the future of mobility.
