CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office and YWCA Greater Cincinnati received a $500,000 grant to expand services for individuals impacted by crime in Hamilton County with a specific focus on domestic violence.
The grant, awarded through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs, will expand information, advocacy and support efforts as victims navigate the criminal justice system and further steps to recovery.
Funding will also increase access to coordinated direct services, including transportation, emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy and other supportive services.
“When someone becomes a victim of crime, their life can change in an instant. Our responsibility is not only to prosecute the person responsible, but to make sure the victim is not left to navigate the aftermath alone,” said Connie Pillich, Hamilton County Prosecutor. “I can’t think of a better partner than the YWCA for this important work.”
The collaboration will launch a new Victims of Crime Service Navigator to serve as a link between victims, prosecutors, law enforcement, YWCA and other community-based providers.
In addition to resources, YWCA Greater Cincinnati will provide advanced training to advocates on trauma-informed care, domestic violence, coercive control, lethality assessment and survivor-centered engagement.
Through this award, the partnership aims to continue building a victim-centered approach to justice and promoting a fair and effective criminal justice system.
