Google has named P3 an accredited third-party laboratory (3PL) for Android Auto Projection (AAP), letting the Stuttgart consultancy certify phone-mirroring systems for vehicles on Google’s behalf. P3 is among the first such labs approved under AAP 2.0, Google’s updated certification programme.

The move extends P3’s October 2024 appointment to certify infotainment built on Android Automotive OS, covering both of Google’s routes into the car. AAP mirrors a connected phone’s apps on the vehicle display, while Android Automotive OS runs natively on the hardware without a phone.

Certification is a gate to market, since Google requires automakers and suppliers to pass 3PL checks before launch. P3 says AAP 2.0 should speed approvals and cut development and deployment costs.

In a statement, Marius Mailat, Chief Technology Officer of P3, said: “Consumers today demand ever-richer experiences in their vehicles, with always-on connectivity, and automakers and their specialist provider partners are responding with innovative solutions for Android Auto Projection. P3’s expanded accreditation by Google as 3PL certification partner for Android Auto Projection systems is a huge milestone for P3: It is our privilege to support Google, and the broader automotive industry, to help OEMs deliver truly best-in-class AAP systems to the expectant international marketplace, and to ensure that consumers around the globe enjoy only top-quality Android Auto technology and user experiences.”
