Globo Announces BBC Sale on ‘Red Blood,’ Hosts Mipcom Showcase

Globo has sold to the BBC “Blood Red – Under the Moonlight,” a teen werewolf/vampire love triangle thriller now bound for BBC iPlayer and BBC Three. Globo has sold to the BBC “Blood Red – Under the Moonlight,” a teen werewolf/vampire love triangle thriller now bound for BBC iPlayer and BBC Three.

The biggest new announcement set for a packed Mipcom Globo Showcase on Sunday evening, the BBC deal marks a milestone for Globo streaming service Globoplaythe first time a Globoplay Original has been licensed to the BBC, whose acquisitions, as in the days of Nordic Noir still mark one gold standards for non-English-language fiction.

“Blood Red – Under the Moonlight” weighs in as a fantasy-adventure-thriller coming-of-age half-hour that marks a major step up in genre for Globoplay.

Created and written by Claudia Sardinha (“Rensga Hits!”) and Rosane Swartman (“A Life Worth Living”), “Blood Red” is set and shot in southeast Minas Gerais’ stunning rolling forest hills. It also serves as a showcase of Globo’s ability to root universal drama series tropes in Brazil’s own realities, here stunning landscapes architecture and lore, such as its maned wolves.

“The BBC acquisition is another example of how understanding audiences helps stories travel further,” said Angela Colla,

“Helping our partners find that audience connection is at the heart of what we do. And our work does not stop when the finished content is delivered,” she added. “Together, we follow performance, share insights and work with partners to unlock each title’s full potential, from launch strategy to audience engagement.”

The BBC deal is one of content highlights, multiple deals, and strategic partnerships – also with Portugal’s SICTurkey’s Ay Yapım and Greece’s Alpha TV – to be spotlighted at the Mipcom 2026 Globo Showcase aimed at underscoring the relevance of Globo’s portfolio and formats in international markets.

These take in Globo’s Super Drama which harness the production might of Globo’s massive Estúdios Globo Rio complex, seen in Showcase highlights “Anything Goes,” a plush, fast-paced remake of one of Brazil’s biggest telenovela 1980s hits, hit a 56% audience share at the murder of its arch villainess, and “Three Graces,” a megahit teen pregnancy drama.

Also highlighted at the Showcase: “To Love Is to Care,” a trad melodrama in a modern urban setting plus love story and whodunnit, set pieces including an Ep. 1 flood scene shot with a LED wall and 140,000 sq. foot artificial lake.

Despite that, it’s storylines which really count, said Colla. “The stories that break through are not always the loudest. They are the ones that become relevant in people’s lives. And that is what we want to talk about tonight: not just the stories themselves, but what makes them resonate so deeply that they continue touching the public way beyond the screen,” said Colla.

“A plot can bring you into a story. But aspects such as strong characters, emotional investment, aspirational and authentic journeys, contemporary tensions, real moral dilemmas and complex relationships are what keep you there. They drive conversations,” she added.

This market, Globo will be honored with the 2026 Mipcom Recognition for SDG Impact award, presented in partnership with the United Nations (UN) in recognition of the impact of its productions on social causes.

It has won other prizes before such as Globoplay Original ‘“Emergency 53,” “‘Suicide Squad’ Meets ‘E.R.’,” Variety announced at Berlin, where it went on to walk off with the first Studio Babelsberg Production Excellence Award, the only award at the Berlinale Series Market.

Also presented at the Showcase, and described by Variety as an “adrenaline-pumping show” that explores the behind-the scenes world of professional soccer, “The Playoffs” had its world premiere at SXSW London this June as Globo accesses ever more major festival and market berths on the international circuit.

“We believe scale is not only about reaching everyone with the same story. It is also about understanding different audience needs and creating stories that speak directly to them,” said Colla. “

That is where our streaming platform Globoplay and its Original Series play a fundamental role. They explore distinct genres and viewers expectations, while applying the same storytelling expertise and production quality behind every project, no matter if it’s a thriller, a drama, a comedy or a true crime story”, she added.

This September, Portuguese broadcast network SIC announced an adaptation of milestone megahit “Brazil Avenue,” building on the success of the redo for Portugal of Globo novela “Pages Of Life,”

For Rodrigo Nascimento, Globo head of business development – EMEA, “a successful adaptation is not about recreating every detail. It is about identifying the emotional truths that made a story resonate in a specific territory, and reimagining them for a new audience and culture. That is why the strongest formats continue to travel. Not because they stay the same, but because they remain meaningful wherever they go,” he said at Mipcom.

Three years ago at Mipcom, Globo announced it had sold first international remake rights on “Brazil Avenue” to Turkey’s Ay Yapım. That sale was extended to a three-format deal, announced this September, after the Ay Yapim produced ‘Leyla,’ the first international adaptation of Globo’s ‘Brazil Avenue,’ sold by Madd Entertainment to over 100 countries and an Intl. Emmy nominee.

That deal takes in “‘The Life She Built,” adapting Globo hit telenovela “Looks & Essence” (“Fina Estampa”) and helmed by “Leyla” director Hilal Saral.

Hit Globoplay original “The Others” is heading to Greece, with production underway by Primavisioneon on a local adaptation for Alpha TV, from Silver Lion-winning “Miss Violence’ director Alexandros Avranas. Globo is also partnering with Alpha TV and Primavisione to produce a local adaptation of Globo telenovela “All The Flowers” as part of a strategic partnership aimed at creating local versions of Brazilian stories for the Greek audience.

Globo is now preparing “Brazil Avenue 2.” “I truly believe a story matters when people recognize something of themselves in it. And when that connection is real, it doesn’t stop when the episode ends. It grows across episodes, platforms, communities, countries and generations, becoming part of people’s lives,” Colla concluded.
