The Municipal Administration of Cochabamba accompanied an operation by the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH), with support from Firefighters, which allowed the seizure of gasoline stored in drums in two rubber shops in the city.
According to Mayor Enrique Navia, more than 200 liters of fuel were found in one of the businesses and 60 liters in the other.
He explained that the operations were carried out in sectors such as Laguna Alalay and 6 de Agosto Avenue, due to complaints of speculation and sale of gasoline at prices higher than the official one.
“There is a lot of speculation in gasoline, where they are buying and selling up to 15 or 20 bolivianos per liter in different sectors of the city,” he stated.
The mayor recalled that the price of special gasoline is Bs 6.96 per liter and questioned that some merchants buy it at that cost to resell it at Bs 15.
“We are not against the work that the Gomeros do, but it cannot be that they buy for 6.96 bolivianos and sell for 15 bolivianos; that is speculation and profit,” he said.
They warn about storage risks
The authority indicated that the Municipality participates in these controls to verify possible cases of speculation, concealment of products and the operating license of economic activities.
He also indicated that, during an inspection on 6 de Agosto Avenue, near a pump, they found five empty drums in a liquor store.
Navia explained that these operations seek to prevent risks due to the storage of fuel in businesses, due to the possibility of fires breaking out and endangering the population.
The seized gasoline was removed by the ANH, in accordance with its regulations. The mayor announced that the controls will continue in different sectors of Cochabamba.
