Food will be prepared for 15,0000 air passengers every day at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). Keeping in view the increasing needs of airlines, flight catering infrastructure has also been prepared here. TajSATS’s flight kitchen at the airport premises is currently providing catering support to more than 40 flights daily. Currently, up to 7,500 meals can be prepared in this kitchen in a day. As the number of flights and passengers at the airport increases, its capacity can be increased to 15,000 miles per day.
Navi Mumbai Airport said that this facility is ready to meet the needs of domestic and international airlines ahead of the winter schedule running from 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027. In this, special focus is also being given on food safety.
Flight kitchen in the airport premises itself
TajSATS’s flight kitchen is located inside the airport premises. This will help in delivering the ready-to-fly miles to the aircraft. The facility is equipped with modern refrigeration systems and scalable production infrastructure, so that catering capacity can be increased or decreased according to changes in airlines’ schedules and demand.
Subhash Murikencherry, Chief Airport Officer, Navi Mumbai International Airport, said that as the airport’s airline network is growing, it is also necessary to expand the supporting infrastructure. According to him, TajSATS’s flight kitchen will give airlines the flexibility to meet the growing demand and improve the dining experience for passengers.
Support not only for domestic but also for international airlines
This facility will work for both domestic and international airlines. Local meal-uplift facility will be available especially for international airlines operating from India. This means that airlines will be able to get catering support from near their departure point.
According to the company, about 40% of international airlines operating from India depend on back catering from their own flight kitchens. The catering infrastructure created at NMIA has been designed keeping such needs in mind.

Capacity to produce 7,500 to 15,000 miles per day
The current capacity of this flight kitchen of TajSATS is 7,500 meals per day. As air traffic and passenger traffic increase, this can be increased to 15,000 miles per day.
The facility also has catering arrangements for different dietary needs. This includes special meals, allergen-sensitive menus and halal meals.
In the flight kitchen, procedures for food safety and quality are followed as per the requirements of HACCP, ISO 22000 and FSSAI. The quality control process is in place from food preparation to its handling, storage and dispatch to the aircraft.
TajSATS has over four decades of experience in the field of aviation catering. The company also operates flight kitchens at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
Why is this facility important?
With the expansion of the airline network at Navi Mumbai Airport, it is not only necessary to increase the runway, terminal and passenger facilities. Backend facilities like catering are also important for the daily operations of airlines.
TajSATS’ scalable flight kitchen fulfills this need. This facility, which currently supports more than 40 departure flights, can further double its capacity as the number of flights increases. This will help NMIA prepare its catering infrastructure for the next phase of domestic and international airline connectivity.
