Playwrights working under WGGB’s collective agreement with UK Theatre will see an uplift of 3.5% to their minimum fees, thanks to the work of WGGB negotiators. The uplift is backdated to 4 May 2026.

The UK Theatre Agreement has a banding system which groups theatres into three categories known as Middle Range Salary Level (or MRSL), hence the three ranges on the rate card (which you can see here).

Under MRSL 1, the total fee for a commissioned play will rise from to £11,206.37 to £11,598.60.

WGGB General Secretary Ellie Peers said: “We welcome the fact we have agreed an uplift of 3.5% on minimum fees with UK Theatre, that the half-day provision for attendance fees is now part of the contract, and the digital terms will continue subject to review – all of which will benefit playwrights.”
