The FBI said the operation was focused on apprehending violent criminals and fugitives, dismantling violent gangs, identifying and rescuing child victims and resolving violent crime cases in Indian Country.

“This second year of Operation Summer Heat clearly demonstrates the FBI’s focus on crushing violent crime and the whole-of-government approach necessary to ensure safer communities,” FBI Sacramento Special Agent in Charge Brian Tosh said in a news release. “We are surging resources and working shoulder-to-shoulder with our law enforcement partners at all levels to remove violent crime and dangerous drugs from the communities we serve.”

The operation nationwide led to 8,927 arrests, the recovery of 5,013 illegal weapons, the seizure of 687 kilograms of the dangerous synthetic opioid fentanyl and 27,512 kilograms of cocaine, the FBI said. Authorities investigating violent crimes against children identified or located 1,410 child victims.

In the 34-county region served by the FBI Sacramento Field Office, 123 people were arrested, 30 illegal weapons were confiscated and 15 child victims of violent crime were found or identified.
