Holmes’ new documentary, You Can See Everythinghit theaters on Friday after a surprise premiere at the Telluride Film Festival last month. The movie, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, was filmed largely over three years, offering an rare look into the now-defunct Theranos founder’s life.

At one point in the film — per Entertainment Weekly‘s sister site, PEOPLE — The Dropout comes up in conversation, with Holmes revealing that she’s never seen it. Director Fielder tells Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, that they should watch.

Holmes and Evans were filmed watching the show in bed. However, one scene caused a visceral reaction from Holmes. After watching Seyfried yell, “Get me the f—ing money” at Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison (played by Hart Bochner), Holmes starts to cry and asks Fielder to turn off the show. He obliges.

Amanda Seyfried played Holmes in the Hulu miniseries, released in 2022. The actress won an Emmy Award for her role as the convicted fraudster.

Holmes founded Theranos in 2003, after dropping out of Stanford University. She aimed to transform the healthcare industry by making blood testing easier and more accessible. By 2014, Holmes raised more than $700 million in venture capital from various billionaires. The following year, a bombshell Wall Street Journal profile raised questions about the company and its technology.

Holmes became a household name by 2018, when she and ex-boyfriend Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani were charged with fraud by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. She was accused of raising the $700 million through false claims about Theranos. Holmes settled with the SEC but found herself in hot water again, when being accused of nine counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in June 2018.

She was found guilty on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and three counts of wire fraud in January 2022. By November, Holmes was sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison. She is currently incarcerated at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas. Earlier this year, a judge reduced Holmes’ sentence, changing her projected release date to February 2030.

However, multiple reports from last month claim that Holmes is set to be moved to a halfway house in August 2027. The Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to “discuss the conditions of confinement for any individual, including release plans,” in a statement to ABC News on Sept. 23.

The BOP noted there are many factors that go into such decisions, including “the level of security and supervision required, medical or programmatic needs, separation or security considerations necessary for the individual’s safety, and other relevant factors, such as proximity to the individual’s release residence.”

You Can See Everything is in theaters now.
