Many times in Crime Stoppers, the video we have when we ask you to identify a suspect is sub-par, out of focus or grainy, at best. Not this week. You might want to get your phone in your hand so you can be first on the line for a chance at reward cash.
Have you ever wondered what the phrase ‘caught with your hand in the cookie jar’ looks like? Local 3 is here for you.
“He’s walking through the woods, he stops and he looks up,” Chattanooga Police Sgt. Victor Miller said. “He sees the camera. You can see that look on his face, real quick. And then he takes the camera with him thinking that he’s taking the evidence. But no, the victim had this cloud recorded.”
This occurred in September in the Shepherd View neighborhood.
“This suspect went and took multiple trips through the woods,” Miller said. “In this case, it’s a residential burglary with a suspect, entered the residence and took multiple tools from the garage area.”
We have video of that, too. One shot shows him weighed down with the victim’s weed eater and blower. In another, you see him going back for another load. It seems he was grabbing anything and everything. When he finally noticed the tree-mounted camera, he was caught with a cooler.
“The suspect appears to be a white male, he’s wearing a blue shirt and a baseball cap,” Miller said. “But, take a good look at his face. We’ve got great video quality, here.”
You can almost read his mind. Perhaps he is thinking, ‘oh no’ or a salty equivalent. He stole the nest camera, too.
“The great thing about this is, it’s recorded to the web,” Miller said. “So, even though the suspect took the camera, he thought that the evidence was gone, but no.”
These great looks give you a chance at up to $5,000 Crime Stoppers cash. Call, go online, or download an app for more options.
“You can also provide updates and additional information,” Miller said. “You can provide downloads, Facebook images, anything that you have that is linked to this crime, you can upload that, as well.”
If you are more comfortable communicating online, here is a link to the Crime Stoppers website. There is also an app where you can communicate your information in real time and send alerts to investigators. It is called P3 Tips, and it can be found in the Apple App Store for Apple devices and the Google Play Store for Android devices.
