Coast Guard continues search for six people after locating debris from missing aircraft off Nantucket

BOSTON — The U.S. Coast Guard is continuing to search Saturday for six people aboard a missing medical transport aircraft after search crews located a debris field confirmed to be from the aircraft off the coast of Nantucket. BOSTON — The U.S. Coast Guard is continuing to search Saturday for six people aboard a missing medical transport aircraft after search crews located a debris field confirmed to be from the aircraft off the coast of Nantucket.

At approximately 2 a.m. Saturday, the Federal Aviation Administration notified the Coast Guard that contact had been lost with the Gulfstream G100 aircraft, tail number C-GRJP, while it was traveling from Bermuda to Boston.

There were six people aboard the aircraft, including four Canadian nationals and two Bermudian nationals. Next of kin have been notified.

Coast Guard search crews located a debris field that has been confirmed to be associated with the missing aircraft. Crews are continuing to search for the six people who were aboard the aircraft and the Coast Guard cutter William Sparling will continue search efforts throughout the night.

Coast Guard and partner-agency assets involved in the search include:

1,644 square miles have been searched over approximately 27 hours.

The search remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The Coast Guard will hold a press conference Sunday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at Coast Guard Base Boston, 427 Commercial st., Boston, to provide an update on the search.
