Clarios, a global leader in low-voltage battery solutions, is expanding its portfolio of high-quality recycled plastics for the automotive industry with the „Seculene“ product line.

The portfolio includes polypropylene (PP) compounds made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) material, which are suitable for applications such as battery housings, bumpers, underbody components, and interior parts. Clarios‘ broadened offering helps automotive manufacturers and suppliers to meet the growing demand for high-performance recyclates and remain compliant with future regulatory requirements.

Recycled polypropylene is becoming increasingly relevant for automotive manufacturers and suppliers. The new European End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Regulation introduces, for the first time, mandatory minimum recycled plastic content requirements for new vehicles. The proposed targets call for 15 percent recycled plastic content by 2032 and 25 percent by 2036, with a defined share of the material required to originate from end-of-life vehicles. As a result, demand for high-performance, reliably available recycled materials is expected to increase significantly throughout the automotive value chain.

Clarios is further developing its Seculene business at its Hanover site as well as at its recycling facilities in Freiberg and Braubach, which were acquired in May 2026. With that, the company is expanding its offering of high-quality recycled materials for the automotive industry while strengthening its capabilities across the polypropylene recyclate value chain. “We are reaffirming Clarios‘ commitment to circular value creation, resilient European supply chains, and reliable customer partnerships by expanding our polypropylene recycling and compounding capabilities,“ said Dr. Christian Rosenkranz, Vice President Industry and Government Relations EMEA at Clarios.

From October 12 to 16, Clarios will present its Seculene product line at Fakuma in Friedrichshafen, the international trade fair for plastics processing. The portfolio comprises approximately 30 material grades, including unfilled and filled PP compounds as well as PP-EPDM compounds. It also includes a flame-retardant polypropylene compound with UL 94 V0 certification (Yellow Card), meeting the highest fire protection standards and enabling use in safety-critical applications.
