For 42 years now, National Crime Prevention Month has made October a great time for residents to focus on prevention to keep themselves and their property safe. Champaign Police encourage our community to take simple steps every day that can remove the opportunity for crime.
These steps include:
- Frequently changing your passwords to prevent identity theft.
- Using safe internet purchase exchange locations when buying items online in the local area.
- Storing bags and purses out of sight when shopping during the holidays and all year long.
- Preventing burglaries by reporting suspicious activity in your neighborhood to police.
Remember that personal safety starts with simple safety habits, and educating yourself is an important first step to preventing crime. By taking simple steps, we can increase our own personal safety and help reduce the risk of others.
