Thursday, Oct. 15, marked the deadline for the latest round of campaign finance reporting in races for federal offices.

Here’s how candidates in the federal races that will be on the ballots of Western Slope voters are faring financially with ballots currently being filled out across the region. The data reflects campaigns’ financial standings through Sept. 30.

The data does not include individual contributions, as it takes the Federal Election Commission (FEC) database a few weeks after each reporting deadline to file all of those figures.

U.S. SENATE

Incumbent Sen. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, remains the most well-supported candidate of the group, having hauled in $11.49 million, including $9.6 million in total contributions, $8.32 million in individual contributions, $1.54 million in transfers from authorized committees, $125,255 in offsets to operating expenditures, and $229,491 in other receipts.

Hickenlooper’s campaign has spent $10.6 million in operating expenditures. In total, per Federal Election Commission (FEC) data, his campaign has $2.34 million in cash on hand.

Republican challenger Mark Baisley, a state senator, lags well behind with $138,210.47 in total receipts (with $135,934.30 in individual contributions). His campaign has spent $85,921 in operating expenditures and $110,837.45 in total. His campaign has $28,159.93 of cash on hand — about 1.2% of Hickenlooper’s cash on hand.

Forward Party candidate Bob Chew, a former businessman, is far and away second in fundraising among the candidates for this seat, with $2.85 million in total receipts (built off $2.7 million in total contributions). Chew has invested his own money into the campaign, with individual contributions from the previous reporting deadline showing he had directed $750,000 toward the campaign.

Chew’s campaign has spent $2.66 million, with much of that going toward a $1.5 million statewide advertising campaign that began at the start of October. That leaves his campaign with $182,664 of cash on hand.

CD3

In the U.S. House 3rd Congressional District, one of the state’s most watched races has seen plenty of fundraising support for both candidates.

Incumbent Republican Jeff Hurd received $465,394.39 in receipts between July 1 and Sept. 30, bringing his fundraising total to $4.045 million. His campaign spent $1.3 million between July 1 and Sept. 30 and has spent $3.14 million in total, resulting in a balance of $925,631.55.

The Democratic challenger, Dwayne Romero, doubled Hurd’s fundraising period for the July 1-Sept. 30 period, bringing in $823,258.62. This brought his total fundraising total to $1.54 million. His campaign spent $645,071.64 between July 1 and Sept. 30, increasing his total disbursed to $1.28 million. His campaign has $262,395 of cash on hand, as well as $460,000 in debts owed.
