Bonnie Paine of Elephant Revival at TACAW, Oct. 9
Branching out on her own, Colorado-based Bonnie Paine of Elephant Revival will perform at 8 p.m. Oct. 9 at The Arts Campus at Willits, 400 Robinson St. in Basalt.
She will play music from her solo debut album, “Unseen,” which was released in May. Her musical style has been described as “haunting and restorative.” She mixes Americana, indie folk, alternative and Celtic influences and plays instruments ranging from a musical saw to guitar to cello. She has long been a key collaborator in the indie folk scene, according to the TACAW website. Tickets are $40 members, $45 in advance or $55 day of. It’s an all-ages show. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

‘Sugar Skull! A Dia de Muertos Musical Adventure,’ Oct. 9

“Sugar Skull! A Dia de Muertos Musical Adventure” brings a bilingual story to the stage at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Wheeler Opera House, 320 E. Hyman Ave.
The lively, kid-friendly stage show explores heritage and folklore through song and story. Vita Flores, 12, doesn’t understand why her family prepares a big celebration for relatives who have died. Then, Sugar Skull, a lively candy skeleton with secrets of her own, pulls Vita into a world between memory and imagination. Music, dance and a bilingual story share the history of Día de Muertos and the bonds of family and memory, according to the Wheeler website.

Basalt 125th anniversary celebration, Oct. 10
The town of Basalt is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a free community event from noon to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Arbaney Park, along Frying Pan River. A community group photo will be taken in the park at 1 p.m.
The day brings Ute tribal performances, live music by A Band Called Alexis and Malquerides, pumpkin crafts hosted by The Art Base, a bouncy house and obstacle courses hosted by the Basalt Regional Library, history tours and a pie baking contest. Parking at Basalt Elementary School or Basalt Middle School and walking to the park is recommended. There will be limited ADA parking available at Arbaney Park.

Teton Gravity Research, ‘Actually, It Is Rocket Science,’ Oct. 10

Teton Gravity Research will present two screenings of “Actually, It Is Rocket Science” at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Wheeler Opera House, 320 E. Hyman Ave.
Teton Gravity Research’s 31st annual ski and snowboard film captures elite athletes with extreme cinematography. Aspen natives Kelly Hilleke and Colter Hinchliffe will be featured. The film took place in locations like Jackson Hole, Haines, British Columbia, Japan, Finland, Andorra, Jay Peak and Montana.

Michelle Branch at Belly Up Aspen, Oct. 10

Grammy winner Michelle Branch will perform as part of her “Everywhere And Back Again” tour at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Belly Up Aspen, 450 S. Galena St.
Branch helped usher in a wave of young women writing and performing their own songs with her 2001 debut “The Spirit Room” and the singles “Everywhere,” “All You Wanted” and “Goodbye to You.” In 2002, She won a Grammy for “The Game of Love” with Carlos Santana. She will perform a mix of nostalgia and newer material. The tour celebrates 25 years of her music.

‘In The Company of Wolves,’ Oct. 15

The documentary “In The Company of Wolves: An American Journey” will screen at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Wheeler Opera House, with a live Q&A following.
Narrated by Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges and directed by Susan Kucera, the documentary explores how wild and domesticated animals have shaped American history. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The live panel will be moderated by Chip Comins, AREI founder and producer, and will include ecologist and author Cristina Eisenberg, hunter and ecologist Eric Washburn, conservation advocate Delaney Rudy and Colorado ranchers Mark Harvey and Tony Vagneur, also an Aspen Times columnist. The event takes place at 320 E. Hyman Ave.
