Buying a Halloween costume for kids all comes down to some simple pre-planning, according to Allison Williams.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the actress, 38, says, “The practice among parents is you have to start checking in costume-wise pretty early, but then you don’t buy anything until you get a little bit closer.”
“It’s kind of a science, honestly,” Williams — who shares a 4-year-old son, Arlowith husband Alexander Dreymon — continues with a laugh.
“There’s an art to the timing of Halloween costume purchasing for parents, because if you go too early, they’ve moved on to another idea, and if you go too late, they’re sold out,” she adds. “So there’s a sweet spot.”

According to Williams, Halloween costume planning for 2026 was easy. She explains to PEOPLE, “Luckily, our guy is pretty predictable.”
“He has aspirations of being an astronauthe has plans for things that he’d like to make to launch into space, so he decided a long time ago that [he will be] an astronaut,” Williams says of Arlo. “He’s got agency.”
“Now what we’re waiting on is, we’ve also given him the power of designing our costumes, which is probably a terrible idea,” the mother of one — who has partnered with Sanofi and Regeneron for a campaign promoting Dupixent — adds.
As for what she thinks her son might pick out for her and Dreymon to dress as, Williams jokes, “He’ll tell my husband to be something hot like Han Soloand I’ll be, like, Darth Vader.”
