ROLEPLAY: Choosing an outfit to embody a character, whatever the occasion, is one of the greatest fashion pleasures for Givenchy guest Janelle Monáe, who chose a masculine suit, tie and striped overcoat for her latest front-row appearance at Sarah Burton’s show Friday afternoon. “Time traveler” was her chosen role for the day, said the musician and actress.

“I think about myself as a world builder and as a storyteller, through music, TV and also fashion,” said Monáe. Acting, after all, is a form of time travel. “It’s so much fun, but at the same time, it’s important to remain present. I try to spend a lot of time present. Talking to you, having this moment, that’s what it’s about,” she said.

Jodie Comer, in a backless draped top in vivid red velvet, proffered, “I feel immediately very relaxed, I kind of feel like I’ve walked into a sound healing,” observing the set, made up of a series of rounded cardboard arches. “There’s something very meditative about this room,” Comer continued, chatting quietly in a corner before the flashbulbs started popping as South Korean singer Jeong-Han from Seventeen entered.

After spending a significant portion of the past few years touring for the one-woman play “Prima Facie,” for which she is to add the inaugural Outstanding Achievement in British Theatre Award to her list of achievements later this month, the “Killing Eve” actress is preparing to go back to television work in the new year to start filming “The Chain,” an HBO thriller by Damon Lindelof. “It’s been a while since I’ve done a TV series, so the idea of having eight episodes’ worth of material to study and get my teeth into seems quite overwhelming at the minute,” Comer confessed.

Eddie Redmayne, attending with his wife Hannah, was in designer fan mode. “Sarah Burton is one of our great friends, she’s such a unique talent and it’s always such an amazing thing to go to one of her shows, and in Paris in the autumn and the sunshine, what’s not to love,” said the British actor, who had checked out the new Irving Penn exhibition at the MEP while in town. Redmayne recently completed Sam Esmail’s “Panic Carefully,” described as a “paranoid thriller,” out early next year. “It’s pretty intense, I’m looking forward to that coming out,” he said.

Speaking of nail-biters, Marisa Berenson, better known for her roles in front of the camera, is in the process of putting together her own movie project. “It’s based on true facts, based on a true story where the backdrop is my grandmother and my life, but it’s also a thriller,” said Berenson who, in case one needs reminding, is the granddaughter of Elsa Schiaparelli. “There’s a lot to say, a lot to talk about,” she said.

Anson Boon beamed happily as he entered the venue and posed for the cameras. “It’s my first Sarah Burton show actually, and I’m a big fan, so I’m very excited to be here,” he gushed, before heading over to chat to Comer. Boon heads onto another set on Monday to start shooting the new movie “Andy & Orson,” which he described as “a Gen Z ‘Withnail and I,” referencing the cult British movie, before starting to film Season Three of “MobLand” in a month’s time.
