All aboard! Trainline’s Culinary Rail Index maps Europe’s must-try bites
A culinary journey by train
Trainline’s Culinary Rail Index highlights 10 European food destinations and the dishes travelers may want to seek out when they arrive.
“It’s like a cheat sheet for eating like a local with tips on what to order, where to find it, and even the best bites to eat in the train station,” Gwen said.
And the journey can begin before you ever leave the station.
“Each stop on Grain Train brings new flavors,” Gwen said.
From paella to bagels
In Barcelona, Gwen recommends seeking out paella, with saffron-infused rice paired with seafood or meat. Travelers can also grab a bocadillo de jamón for another classic Spanish bite.
Then it’s on to London, where Gwen suggests heading to the East End for a freshly baked bagel filled with brined beef and mustard.
With rail connections making it possible to move between cities and cuisines, the index offers another way for travelers to build their European itinerary around what they want to eat next.
